It Takes a Village

Hey there, Friends!

Saturday morning and we set out to do a little weeding.  Amy and Eugene and I got to it mid-morning.

We have a few squash plants that are, of course, taking over everything and we've forgotten what each on is.  But the blooms are beautiful!

Beets at attention!

Simon and Richard, visiting from Los Angeles, came over to help pull some weeds as well.

More soon!

Stake the Tomatoes!

The Intimidating Wall of Corn is getting bigger...

And the marigolds are getting brighter...

And the tomatoes are getting unruly.

So today we staked them using my grandfather's tobacco tomato stakes.

Here, Eugene shows off one of the finished products.

And the finished job.  You can't really see them all that well here, but trust us, the stakes are in and the tomatoes are secure.

Eugene wanted to use his body and this piece of rope to express the inner meaning of "intimidating" in The Intimidating Wall of Corn.

A close-up.

I think he expresses this idea perfectly.  Don't you?

An Afternoon Weeding

As you can see, the weeds have taken over.

So Eugene and I set work today for about three hours....

Along with the help of Sonny, Eugene's amazing neighbor...

We got in there and got our hands...

And bellies...

Dirty...

But we did it!

A shot of that one little watermelon plant.  It's grown, huh?

More to come!
Hope all are well...
