Gracie the Gardener Cat

Hey friends!

As we allow time for some things to grow, I'd like to introduce you to Eugene's housemate, Gracie the Gardener Cat...

Yes. A normal looking feline, you say.

Always ready for a pet or purr.

You know... A cat.

But...

When you have seedlings...

And place them before her...

Something happens.

A communion.

And soon...

Everything changes...

Some might call this merely a cat sniffing something that wasn't there before.

We call it feline / basil transference...

Just sayin'.

More soon...
Stay tuned...

We present to you....

One of the master gardeners with a gift from Arthur, Simon, and Richard...

So things are looking good.

Hope all are well!

Where Does One Start?

What makes two grown men - one from the North, one from the South, one young, one old, one straight, one gay come together to plant their first garden? In Spring '09 Mike Ostroski and Eugene Wolf combined forces to see how gardens work. A little background...

Times were hard in Spring '09. Matters of the heart. So we plowed up the earth. Dig it or don't. We did. We chose the backyard of the gay man. Gay people know how to grow things. As luck would have it the man who lived in the house prior had planted a garden in the yard years before. We could see where it was. So we borrowed his tiller and tilled in the exact spot. A garden template.

We learned a lot. Like...groundhogs love your garden. A dog will snap a groundhog's neck. Abingdon, VA is overrun with groundhogs. Tomatoes will rot. Beans have to be picked. Those sorts of things.

Well, here it is Spring '10 and we've planted for another year. Peppers, corn, potatoes, peppers, eggplant, green beans, peppers, dill, chamomile, marigolds, nasturtium, peppers, beet, kale and chamomile (because one's gay) and BLACK AZTEC SWEET CORN. We're guarding the garden closely (see below.)

Tune in tomorrow...
