Times were hard in Spring '09. Matters of the heart. So we plowed up the earth. Dig it or don't. We did. We chose the backyard of the gay man. Gay people know how to grow things. As luck would have it the man who lived in the house prior had planted a garden in the yard years before. We could see where it was. So we borrowed his tiller and tilled in the exact spot. A garden template.
We learned a lot. Like...groundhogs love your garden. A dog will snap a groundhog's neck. Abingdon, VA is overrun with groundhogs. Tomatoes will rot. Beans have to be picked. Those sorts of things.
Well, here it is Spring '10 and we've planted for another year. Peppers, corn, potatoes, peppers, eggplant, green beans, peppers, dill, chamomile, marigolds, nasturtium, peppers, beet, kale and chamomile (because one's gay) and BLACK AZTEC SWEET CORN. We're guarding the garden closely (see below.)
Tune in tomorrow...

Thanks for the link, Doc. And Mike, now that I have "engaged" you, I will be looking forward to reading your posts about the garden's progress this summer. I took photos of the garden each time I visited last summer. I probably won't see this year's garden again until late June, but I can keep up with it through this blog. I was very much impressed by Eugene's and your efforts last year, and I expect that I will be this year as well.
